HEIDI WEISMAN

personal chef, caterer, dog lover

I love everything about food! I adore farmer’s markets, cooking with new ingredients and I’m a total nerd about the science of baking. My approach to cooking is to make simple delicious meals for everyday life. I believe that real food is medicine, and try to eat organic, whole foods; keyword try, because while I'm thoughtful about what I eat (mostly plants, lots of fresh herbs, beans and grains) I'm also realistic.  I seriously can't imagine a life without bread and cookies, so I eat them.

This mindfulness about food started over 20 years ago when my brother was diagnosed with cancer. To say Shelly's diagnosis was overwhelming is an understatement; it left me searching for some sort of order in the world. On top of that, I was turning 30 and not in the best physical shape. Somehow, it occurred to me that the one thing in life that I could control, was what I ate. I began collecting cookbooks and filling binders with recipes I'd rip from magazines. I obsessed over seasonal menus, ethnic flavors, and new techniques. I took every cooking class possible (from The New School of Cooking to The Culinary Institute of America). My relationship to food was forever changed, and along the way, I even lost 40 pounds. Ultimately, I found my calling, and realized that my happy place is in the kitchen, and that for me, sharing food, is sharing love.

I've had many jobs  (feature film development, magazine publishing, managing a newsstand) but nothing has been as deeply, soulfully satisfying as cooking. Heidi Cooks meal delivery and personal chef services has grown organically from this passion. They say that when you love what you do, you never work a day in your life, and they're right.

I look forward to cooking for you and yours!
